Public Transport  a scare for Women

Women commuters not only experienced inconvenience in travelling through the public transport system but they also face the ordeals of molestation, Chain snatching, eve teasing and even rape. If travelling by train is a tough task, travelling through bus is still worse.  Bus conductors really act rude with male passengers resulting in huddle during the busy time in the morning. Passengers need to tender exact change to the conductors to avoid confrontation and at the same time conductors should also come to the passenger to issue tickets and in some cases need to part with change if the passengers could not give the correct change.  Only Air-conditioned buses plying within the city provide reasonable service as they charge heavily. The conductor-passenger relations should be maintained harmoniously avoiding trouble while travelling. Other transport system like Autos and Taxis need to be improved and the drivers should take the passengers to any destination and never ask extra over and above the meter reading.  Rude behavior should go and they need to provide best services and keep the passengers happy all the time. Railways is the cheapest mode of travel and in Mumbai most of the people use the support system to reach every nook and corner of the city.  But the helpline numbers are there for the namesake and not working all the time adding fuel to the fire. During day time also women passengers are scared of travelling in first class and empty bogies in different routes and they generally travel by general coach to avoid trouble.  Had security being provided to the women commuters, they can take advantage of the protection and travel even during lean hours. As a handicapped person I used to struggle standing on the pathway of local trains and when I tried to go inside,  co-passengers block my way crushing my Varicose affected leg from all sides.  by chance if I go near a seat no one gets up to provide me a seat. If the position in general compartment is bad, the treatment meted out in first class is still worse. To improve the position frequency of trains should improve and the trains should come to the station on time.
